But I don’t want to loose the stuff I actual use. Keep it simple please (if you can) I just know computer basics ^ ^ Thanks
Well Bob that’s a pretty tall order. That would be like you asking us to share knowlege about medicine. There are so many specialities and fields of study that no single book or website will do. But, you did mention a few areas that intrest you so I will make a few suggestions based on these.
Computer Basics = Check out PC’s for Dummies by IDG Books. This book will explain the technological aspect of PC’s in a way that you can relate. Plus they include witty humor and jokes to keep the book light and lively.
Managing Your PC = Again turn to the IDG Dummies books. They make a :FOR DUMMIES book for anything. Simply check out the book of your intrest at Books-A-Million while sipping on some fresh coffee. They let you read in the store.
Internet = Again… Internet for Dummies… I own this book and thank to it, I now run ftp servers, email servers, video servers, gaming servers, and more.
Computer Science = To learn more about Computer Science, you should join tech forums such as http://www.FixYa.com who focus on PC related issues. Reading up on these issues and contributing in will also help you gain insight into this area.
Programming = Ok there are several programming languages and for each, you get a certain outcome. You could program Websites and do HTML, You could program in C++ and create simple Windows programs. Or you could use gaming engines and write video games. See, in order to direct you in the right place, you would have to be a tad bit more specific.
Hacking = Hacking could mean a number of things. Hacking could be picking a program to peices and figuring out how it functions. It could be breaking into some secured computer network somewhere, or it could even be simply cracking serial codes on popular software. At anyrate, Hacking comes only with experience and is not something that can just be tought at a website or in a book. It’s application of knowlege collected by the hacker of a set amount of time. And usually consists of all the above mentioned aspects of computers.
My suggestion is to learn the basics first, then pic a specialty field and go with it. Learn about it. Later on down the road you can shift focus to something else, but ya got get a foundation first.
Best of luck.
I have found myself very interested about computers. This includes the computers basics, managing your computer, using the internet, computer science, programming, and hacking. If you consider your self knowledgeable about computers and how they work please share your knowledge and experience with me. Please recommend beginning books, videos, websites, or other sources I can use to increase my knowledge.

I am looking at ways to initiate my 7 Year old daughter into the world of programming. What is the best way to start – which programming language ? Can you point me to any resource that I could use? She has a subject “Computer Basics” in her school where she is being taught the Basics of Computer Hardware – but nothing about Software.
They’ll teach you what you need to know.
If your only experience is with Windows you’re going to have a hard time since there is a LOT you’re going to have to learn. Of course any professional degree is going to be like that.

I need to know some basic information about computers starting at the very bottom
I’d like to know what a gigabyte is how much you need a home computer and basics about operating systems and such

A computer is like math. You will need to “use” it to learn and retain everything about a computer.
32 bit and 64 bit refers to the ‘data buss’, which is used to move data around inside your computer. In a 32-bit computer, the width (or size) of the data buss is 32-bits wide. A 64-bit buss is twice as wide, so the system can move twice as much data around. Being able to process more data means a faster system — but only for specific things.
MS-Office is the basics one. But it will be using our entire life.
MS-Office courses lists are:
Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Outlook,
Microsoft Excel,
Microsoft Powerpoint
Provide training as mentioned the above courses to your Kid.
